Day 14 we may need to recover from the Recovery dvd!!

To start off today was an off day from the time I arrived at work.  I made a lot of mistakes I haven't made since I first started working in my career.  Don't worry no one was hurt.  Then when i was getting ready to mix my pre workout protein shake the milk I poured into it was chunky and sour.  Don't worry I didn't drink any of it, but because of the sour milk i didn't get my pre workout protein shake.  Coming home from work I was Tired and Starving and I really didn't want to work out.  John convinced me though it was only the Cardio recovery dvd which as we remembered from before it was pretty easy.  Our Memories must have masked the torture from last time because I didn't remember any of the pain I went through today.  There isn't much cardio thus the recovery, but there is a ton of squats, lunges, and planks.  My thighs were smoked before the end of round one and at one point my thighs had HUGE knots on the tops of my thighs.  John will tell you I was yelling at the dvd half the time because we would have to hold a squat or lunge while Shaune described the proper technique and I just wanted him to shut up so we could stop holding the pose that most the time I could hold for the whole time anyways, even though i was trying my hardest.
Even though this work out was very difficult it was an excellent work out and I'm sure tomorrow my legs will be sore.  I'm also sure that workouts like this is why my legs are starting to look so nice--Jill

So today started off silly for me also.  Figured out my physical therapy appt was at 310 not 910.  So that pretty much summed up today meaning full small hickups but nothing world stopping.  Had some interesting moments at work.  Some mentoring and some WTF's but all in all not a bad day.  Tomorrow my friends daughter, Addisons best friend, is watching her while Jack and I head to Wand Fight Team for some much needed work on our jui jitsu.  I love jitsu.  Its got so many benifits.  Cardio, strength and fortitude.  All things you need in life.  Then we're watching UFC 129, which I'll say I think GSP will have it by TKO in RD2.  There you have it.  GSP def Shields.  Followed by the fights Jill and I have another workout scheduled for tomorrow.  Pretty excited.  This morning I weight in at a good 209.  Slimming down quite a bit these days.  Check you tomorrow--John

Day 13 Ball Buster

Pretty excited.  As you can see, Jill let me title the post.  Today was rough on me.  Tough day training at the gym.  Got worked over by some good dudes during MMA and was exhausted by the end of that. Then I rolled into gi BJJ, and proceeded to get beat down some more by people I feel I should have been able to excel against.  I was burnt out by the end of BJJ.  I came home with no motivation and just an over all downer whiney biotch.  I know Jill really likes us doing these work outs so I sucked it up and gave it my college try.  If you know me, then you know what type of try that was.  Anyhow, we worked through it finished the work out and now I'm acting like a bag of sand sitting on the couch spilling in all direction.  Tomorrow is a new day.  No BJJ or MMA but still I got some gym time, then physical therapy then some more insanity.  I better look in the lockers at work for some abandoned motivation.--John

Today was pretty awesome.  I can tell I'm getting better at the different moves but that doesn't necessarily make the work out any easier you just do the moves faster.  I was really worried that today's workout was going to be really difficult since I ate my weight in monkey Bread earlier today.  IT was just so tasty I couldn't stop eating it.  I was surprised to find that I only stopped twice outside the regular breaks.  The hardest part for me is the all the shoulder stuff one right after the other.  I have never really been known for my upper body strength and its showing now.  As long as I keep doing this I shouldn't have a hard time doing push ups for the PT test.
I am really starting to like this program.  I feel better I feel like I can breath better.  I wake up with more energy  and I seem to sleep better most nights.  My legs are starting to look better and John says I look thinner (maybe not after all the monkey bread I ate today)  But anyways For a program to actually show physical improvements in just 9 workouts is totally worth it to me and I am inspired to start working even harder.  If My gym membership gets figured out I will be excited to do two workouts a day.  Its been really fun to see my core get stronger and to feel as good as I feel right now.  Also on an up note my calves haven't been bothering me as much they were still tight to day but they didn't hurt as bad as usual which was a major bonus for me.  -Jill

Day 12 Stopped again :(

Okay so we aren't doing insanity again today because John is staying late at the gym so that he can do the Jiu Jitsu with Wanderlei Silva today which is an awesome training opportunity.  So instead of taking our scheduled rest day tomorrow we are going to take it today.  Then tomorrow its back into the swing of things.
On another note I was going to do another workout earlier today but that also got quickly stopped in its tracks due to a billing issue with Golds Gym.  Its kinda a long story but lets say at this very moment I'm not happy with Golds Gym what so ever today.  I'm still waiting for a call and I hope that they will fix the issue because besides the customer service that i got today I have generally like golds gym they have lots of classes and equipment and their child care is Phenomenal.  I feel like I've been betrayed by a good friend today.  I don't know what I'm going to do if I loose golds gym they are a huge help in allowing me to workout because they are A) very close to our house and B) they have child care which allows me time to work out because any of my free time I have the kids with me.  Anyways I planned on doing a Pilate's Class and going for a run and I'm pretty disappointed that those workouts didn't happen today.  Oh Well tomorrow is another day and we can only hope for the best right.  Moving onward and forward.  I'll make john get on later and tell everyone about his Jiu Jistu work out at least

Day 11 another day on the path

Today was another round of Pure Cardio.  I felt really good today.  Which made it more frustrating when I had to stop because my calves were so tight.  a few times when I had to stretch I could feel a ripple up my calf.  Today felt good I definitely feel like I'm improving glad to be moving along in the program.  I can't wait until the fit test next week to see how much I really have improved.  Not much else to say about today I seem to be at a loss for words today.

Today was good.  Felt pretty solid about the whole thing.  Did a decent work out this morning before work.  Tomorrow I head back to WFT for some MMA and BJJ.  That's all if time permits.  However, I'll it at least be at the BJJ class.  Then come home to do some more insanity.  By the way, I love watching Archer.  Its damn funny.  Good abdominal work out laughing.

9&10 we are at it again

Okay so even though we planned to do a workout yesterday it just didn't happen.  Between the exhaustion from driving, dehydration headache, and sunburned body parts (my feet and John's shoulders)  we decided it would be better to sit it out one more night.  I know that these days off are not helping our over all progress but we have found that this program is a lot harder than expected.  The program it self defiantly lives up to its name but also its been hard to fit into our very busy schedule without causing major exhaustion.  Most days we don't get a chance to do the program till about 7:30, 8 pm after work, dinner,Jiu Jitus for jack, ballet for Addison,  kids baths, bed time stories ect. And then we have to find a way to spend time together get house chores done and shower before our at latest 10pm bed time so we can turn around at get up at 5 am and do it all over again. so i contribute these more frequent breaks to working out the kinks to our schedule.  Soon we will be on a roll and we will only break at the Insanity schedule says too.

ON TO DAY 10!!!!!  Okay so for day ten (really day 7 in the program) we are back at it.  A second round of Cardio Power& Resistance.  Today I didn't feel so good as I worked out.  Overall I felt like I had no energy no push and also my belly felt painfully full of gas.  I have no Idea what I did or didn't eat today that threw me off my game but once I figure it out I will never do it again.  Today was possible but very painful for me.  I know that I am bound to have days like this but they are aggravating because I want to see myself improve not get worse.  I do feel like I'm better balanced and was able to complete Globe Jumps much easier then when I first did them.  I also feel like I'm able to jump a lot higher then when I first started.  I do still have a lot of pain/tightness in my calves and often find myself stopping a little short of time on any of the jumping activities due to pain in my calves.  I am seriously considering going in to the doc to see what he thinks and make sure i don't have some sort of injury but I haven't decided yet.  I am excited to see how I do on the next day of training.  I am ready to get into a rhythm and run with this program

Well folks there you have it.  Jill pretty much summed up alot of information.  I felt better about the program than the previous ideration of exercises.  I think the weekend break actually helped me.  Granted my should suddenly hurts as I write this, but I was doing the walking push-ups and it felt good.  The regular push-ups hurt a bit.  I'm slowly but surely dropping some excess grossness in my life.  I'm excited for IBJJF Worlds in Long Beach in June.  I plan on focusing on my Gi jui jitsu and lots of cardio so I dont gas like I did at NAGA.  So diet changing even more, and focusing more on my goals.  So if you see me eating some crap slap it out of my hand and give me a good game for good measure.  Stay tuned followers for more exciting info. John

Days 7& 8

Okay so I'll start off with day 7 Friday.  We were going to do an insanity workout before we headed to California but We were so busy cleaning the house and packing before we left that we were just to tired to fit in a workout.  We fit in a small lunch date before we left though because John and I never get to spend any time together really other than these workouts.  Friday night we hit the road with the kids and headed to Huntington Beach to visit family and spend a day at the beach.
Day 8 Saturday, we couldn't have asked for a better day at the beach.  It was about 70 degrees out and there was no wind so it was beautiful.  We spent about 5 hrs chasing Addison up and down the beach while watching Jack and my Niece Payton battle Knee High waves.  Everyone but John chose to wear sunscreen and mostly got away without getting sunburned (I forgot to put sunscreen on my feet :(...)  Even though we didn't get an "insanity" workout we did get quite a work out running up and down the beach and we really did enjoy a wonderful day with the Kids my niece, brother Josh and John's cousin Larry.  Tonight we will be getting back into the routine with the next workout which may feel a little interesting with Sunburned Feet..  Stay Tuned for the next installment.

Day 6 One more day and week One is over

So today was Plyometric cardio circuit again. I feel like my cardio is improving in the beginning I only had to stop a few times because I felt like my Calves were going to bust. the last round of the workout was miserable though. I didn't mind the basketball drills but I hate the level one drills, ski abs, and in and out abs. My shoulders were burning through these three drills and I had to stop quite a few times because of it. I have to say that half the time I feel like such a wuss next to all that John can do. All though the other half of the time I'm sooo glad that he's there because I wouldn't push my self as hard if he wasn't around. One more workout tomorrow and then off to the beach for some much needed family time and relaxation --Jill

Well today hurt the shoulder a little bit. Not the burning usually associated with working out, but the actual sharp pain of a torn muscle.  Oh well, need to suck it up since the AF wont fix it.  Another awesome experience was the neighbors annoying accessories (midget like dogs) high pitch barking the whole time we're working out.  That was very annoying.  I wanted to punt them down the street.  The work out itself was good.  I'm not really feeling a change.  I'm sure this combined with my usual work outs will pay dividends.  I wish our living room was set up a little differently to get this done a little better.  Need to thinking about how I arrange the living room.  Well I cant wait for tomorrow afternoon.  Happiness is Las Vegas in the rear view mirror for the weekend. Laters.--John

Day 5 Back on the Wagon

Okay so we are back on track.  The one day of rest was much needed and after today's workout was much appreciated.  I woke up today feeling refreshed.  I finally wasn't sore and felt pretty good. I definitely felt ready to get back to work.  Little things that have not been verified but that I have noticed since I started the program.  My legs feel tighter then before starting this program.  They don't feel as flabby or floppy as before.  I'm wishing now that i had done all the measurements the program suggested.  Also my core feels stronger and tighter.  I don't necessarily think I've gotten rid of any belly fat yet but my core does feel stronger.  I also feel like I'm getting more flexible nothing amazing yet but I am noticing little changes and that's pretty exciting for me.
Today we did Pure Cardio and let me tell you what an ass kicker.  This video was non stop go go go.  the moves in this video were hard because you go so fast for so long.  I definitely burned some calories during this video. I hated the push-up jacks and the squat jumps (john calls those burpies) but I suck at regular push ups and regular squats so no surprise for me that these were the two hardest exercises for me to accomplish.  As hard and as fast as this video was I really did enjoy it.  I felt awesome after this work out.  Tired but not burned out.  Workouts like this one will really help me with my marathon training.   The only thing i need to work on now is how to keep my calfs from getting so tight so fast.   Tomorrow come a new workout and then prep for our trip to the beach--Jill

Got back on the wagon today.  Did a decent cardio work out.  It was a good one.  Certainly got our moneys worth.  I need to get my cardio up even more.  I'm not gassing at BJJ as much like I used to.  I dont know what it is, but I'm not getting my butt kicked anymore.  I've enjoyed watching Jill bust her butt through the last couple of sessions.  It should pay off for the half marathon we're doing in June.  Although we'll not only need to kick up the cardio but also get a little weather acclimated with the high temps around lake meade during that time.  It is interesting how we end up watching Man v. Food after our workouts every night.  Well folks see you punks on the flip-side!!! John

Day 4 Lack of Modivation won today

Okay so we didn't do insanity today like we were suppose to.  John still got a work out in at Jiu Jitus but I didn't do anything.  Well I can't say nothing.  I did a ton of work around the house and took the kids to the dentisit.  Needless to say when I got home I didn't feel up to a work out. I feel pretty crappy today. I feel tired and sore nothing horribly intense but definatly have that drive to not move because my legs and shoulders feel like led.  It doesn't help that I have a headache I'm sure I didn't drink enought water today.  It didn't take much to convince john to follow along.  So instead we sat on the couch and watched man vs food and then its early to bed.  We plan to get back on the horse tomorrow.  Actually I am determined to get back on the program tonorrow.  I missed working out today but I just didn't have the energy to do it.  Come back tomorrow to see how the workout goes.--Jill

As Jill stated before I did knock out a good work out at BJJ.  Felt good to get back into the gi side of it.  Had a few submissions and survived a few of the more experienced dudes.  Thats about it against them though, survived.  No insanity today.  Kind of glad.  My 3 work outs a day were starting to take it toll on me I think.  However, I need to suck it and push it out tomorrow and not be such a bitch about it.  If I want to have to the cardio to make up for inexperience on the mat then I need to ramp it up several notches.  We got our work out tomorrow after Jill gets back from work.  So tomorrows plan is get the house picked up a little bit laundry away, then make a puddle of nasty sweat somewhere on the carpet.  For those of you who maybe visiting our house soon, you'll never know where it is or if you maybe stepping into where it used to be.  Gross for you!!!!!  Its ok for me because its my sweat!!! (Jill Says don't worry she steam cleans the carpet often!) --John

Day 3 WOW

So today I woke up pretty sore but I felt pretty good.  I feel like this is giving me more energy.  My shoulders were burning today and my calfs are beyond tight but other than that I felt good.  This morning I did the Plyometric Cardio Circuit with my friend Sam definitely easier the second time around.  Still an ass kicker and my heart rate was still in the 160's-190's.
This evening John and I had Cardio recovery.  I have to say I really like this dvd.  This is definitely a nice slow paced workout but still an ass kicker lots of squats and lunges.  Even thought my heart rate didn't raise at all really I was sweating like crazy which like I said before I usually don't sweat much so I really feel like I'm getting a good workout.  I also really like all the stretching in this dvd it felt so good with all the soreness from the last few days.  I think I will be looking forward to this dvd every week.  I'm wondering how I'll feel tomorrow because its much harder for me to stay hydrated when I'm not a work so we shall see.--Jill

Like Jill, I was fairly sore today.  I pushed through it at BJJ and MMA.  Although through out my workouts I had to fight off cramps in both my legs.  Had a good BJJ workout.  The guys whooped my butt.  Then I came home to an excited little girl, who was just about ready for bed.  She was acting all crazy and I couldn't keep up.  However, Jill and I had to push each other through our insanity workout again tonight.  We did well.  It was cardio recovery which felt good.  Lots of breathing exercises as well as stretching.  Good times, I truly needed the stretching.  Good news is we only 57 days to go. --John

Day TWO hmmm

Well to start off with I was kinda worried this morning when I woke up this morning that I would be horribly sore from the workout the day before and amazingly I was a little stiff but not to sore.  That changed as the day went on.  I noticed more and more soreness and stiffness in my shoulders and legs the longer I sat a work.  I think part of the problem was that I had to sit all 12 hours of my shift.  For those of you who don't know I work in the ICU and often I am caring for PTs doing different tasks throughout the day from drawing labs to helping give meds to cleaning  ect but some days I have to sit TELE which means I sit and look at a computer with up to 32 patients heart rates on it.  Today I worked Tele which means that after my hard workout yesterday I sat for 12 hrs at work.  Probably not the best idea but I didn't really have a choice.
Now about today's workout.  Power Resistance training.  I have to say I liked this workout more then yesterdays mostly because it was easier for me to do.  Not to say that the workout was any easier then yesterday but I understood the moves better.  This one had lots of jump squats and push-ups needless to say by the end my butt felt like jello my thighs are smoked and my shoulders burning.  Again my average heart rate was 170-190.  This workout seemed to go by faster and I felt better today then I did yesterday I felt like I could breath better and like I could do more.  I know its only the second workout and improvements can't be made that fast but I really did feel a lot better during this workout.  At the end John and I tried a recovery drink and we shall see if it helps with the soreness.  Tomorrow with be an interesting day I'm going to do one Insanity workout with my friend Sam in the morning and then another tomorrow evening with John.  I will be sure to tell you all how it goes.-- Jill

So I was running low on motivation earlier today so I packed up Thing 1 and Thing 2 and proceeded to golds gym to find some motivation.  Well I found it there and I felt as though the tank was only about 3/8s full when I left that place.  I did a good core work out mixed in with some legs.  Like Jill's double session tomorrow, I've got one of my own. Today's work out was pretty good.  A mix of squat jumps V push ups, and front kicks with some other craziness mixed in, comprised our work out for tonight.  Yes my sister would've just had a seizure if she read that whole run-on sentence fragment.  Regardless of my epic comprehension of the English language, I'll say this.  After all this I should be in decent shape for worlds.  After work tomorrow I'll be hitting up my 5pm MMA session followed by my 1hr BJJ class then to finish up the ball buster day I've got insanity with Jill.   I love how Jill and I do these crazy work outs then watch Man vs Food.  This always presents a contentious situation.--John

Day ONE It begins

So we officially started our program today.  I have to say that after the warm up I wanted to quit.  Insanity definitely lives up to its name.  We did Plyometric cardio circuit today and throughout the entire program my heart rate was between 160-190 BPM.  I had to take a lot of extra breaks but even with that I know I still had a great workout.  You may wonder how I know I still had a great workout. My biggest indicator was how sweaty I was at the end. This means a lot to me because I never sweat, even after a 6 mile run I'm not as sweaty as I was after this work out.  The workout was challenging but defiantly enjoyable even with all the challenges.  I can't wait till I notice little parts of different workouts getting easier like up-down push ups and squats.  So in this first day I have learned that this program defiantly won't be a cake walk but if I stick to it I'm sure I'll see some major improvements--Jill

Well the Doc and Physical therapist said I definitely have a tear in my rotator cuff. They said I need to rehab it before we do anything involving surgery. The physical therapist said I should continue with the BJJ and MMA since it works out the shoulder muscles that don't usually get attention due to needing to put weight on it. The work out tonight was good. For the most part I kept up with the instructor. However, there were certainly parts where I was thinking WTF how I did get this bad. Well since I'm training for worlds in june, i think this will be a good ass kicking along with my 3 days down at Wand Fight Team training with the guys. So I'm pretty pumped to push myself. I'm really excited to be able work out with Jill and see her progress gradually. --John

The Fit Test

So Insanity came in the Mail yesterday and although John leaves for TDY tonight we couldn't wait to do the Fit Test.  We have decided that we won't offically start until John returns from TDY on Saturday of next week.
If the fit test is any indication of how the rest of this program works its pretty crazy. The fit test is 8 moves done over a min for each move to see how many you can complete and is used to show improvment throught the program it is done once every two weeks.  Here are out inital Fit Test  results
1. Switch Kicks Jill :45  John: 93
2. Power Jacks Jill : 30 John: 61
3. Power Knees: Jill: 58 John : 114
4. Power Jumps Jill : 22 John : 48
5. Glove Jumps Jill : 4 John: 9
6. Suicide Jumps Jill: 8 John :17
7. Push UP Jacks Jill: 9 John:-  not completed due to injury of shoulder
8. Low Plank Oblique Jill:25 John :34

After the fit test my legs felt like Jelly and I was definatly sweating.  John was pretty sweaty himself.  we will have to see how sore we are tomorrow.  I am going to try and keep better track of my eating so I can tell everyone and myself what i'm eating to see if it affects my perfomance through out the program.

We also took our first photographs today that was kinda nerve racking since i don't really like to take photos of myself let alone photos that expose so much skin but I know its the best way to show myself the changes that have been made because of this program.
